We Prefer It Simple

I’ve been in an irritable mood this passing week. Mainly infuriated with people who persistently assumes we are wealthy and mighty enough to own luxury cars, high-end homes, jewelleries, and the list goes on…

If you’re one of them, here’s my response to your many assumptions about us…. Oh and answers to your “Why don’t you buy a car? You can easily afford it!”, “Why not reside nearer to the city (pricier rents), no??”.

Is it any of your concern if we prefer spending on taxi/ Metro train rides during our impermanent expat life here?
So what if we’re the minority that rather save and spend within our means and needs??
Does it matter if
we’re happy residing slightly away from the happening and lively expensive town??

Since being in this bling city, many we know – and noticed – splurge on (at least) a luxury purchase. Branded cars, gems, villas, weekly spas, weekly make-overs… All the wants money can buy.

And indeed, like most, we can afford too… But it was never in our veins to overspend and try playing rich to FIT into their ‘celebrity’ lifestyle!

Mainly because we both are, by default, simple contented beings. Period.

3D Sketches- Kitchen Ideas (3)

Not having much thoughts dressing up your tiny kitchen space?

Fret not! Plenty of space saving ideas can be found in home magazines/ books.

Here’s my idea to enjoy some cooking and food loving, a table for two, mini stove and a tall vertical cabinet-  for storage purposes- helps save the already cramped room.

Upcoming House Hopping(s)?

Weeks ago, Hubs and I had an interesting snuggly conversation about our recent thoughts of needing to house hop (like 3 times at least) before leading up to our permanent long-term home in New South Wales (Aust).
IF our plan Amazing doesn’t work out as prayed and hoped, plan Backup should smoothen our predictable cosy life here, and if all fails… Migrating back to Oz – to settle down permanently – earlier would suit us best, unless our careers takes either one of us away again.

Sigh, the thought of moving about so much beforehand, can be quite, bothersome!

Happy Thursday people! Soaked into the weekend mode, i sketched a more higher-end design. More cabinet space, granite counter top, branded quality sinks and an electrical stove!

Yes, monies can buy anyone a lush kitchen… And this idea, will be filed under my ‘big budget’ category.

3D Sketches- Kitchen Ideas (1)

Here i am at it again, sketching out loud my dream kitchen, paper after paper…

Neat lines, clutter-free and maintenance friendly are my wants in a kitchen, haven’t really thought about the colour scheme though.

Maybe neutral with a dash of red??

Many more ideas coming up!

A Short-Term Housewife, Maybe??

I’ve been pondering for some months now about being a housewife (short-term basis) while we’re here. The husband has been dropping suggestions that he’s happy to have me at home doing my own things, running chores, dishing up his fave foods and other wifey tasks. And even IF i chose not to, he’ll still be contented about it.

Truth is, I’m willing to settle at home for awhile… A tiny breather away from ANY work-related commitments is a definite way to cleanse those dusty brain cells of mine!

As of 2002-2010 the ambitious willful me have been – day and night, month after month -chasing my ‘perfect’ career, and it ain’t easy letting all go. Even for a short period of time. A designer’s salary range depreciates when he/she takes a break, a 6-8 months break is all it takes and you’re back to three quarters –of 8 years- years’ wages. This fact was based on my last research back in 2008. Not sure about 2010 onwards.

And of course I will miss my monthly paychecks for my own personal spending and savings. Though I have an option of either, I’m not even sure which is for the better. But I’m flattered to know that I get to stay home full-time – temporarily – whenever I choose to.

So if I lose/ resign my job any day, I’m thankful that I’ve learnt to place family/friends/church/personal life first.

Ohhh… I suddenly love how unpredictable my life is!

Dubai EatOuts #146: CARLUCCIO’s @ Dubai Mall

Weeks ago, we had a delicious breakfast experience in Carluccio’s, and because of their courteous and quality meals i decided to return, at The Dubai Mall outlet instead, for lunch.

I enjoyed lunching at THIS restaurant much more, spacious seating layout and wider food varieties.
Walking into the weekend crowd, we chose a table towards the corner… A window seat overlooking the 30-acre Burj Khalifa lake… Nice!

We ordered
1 Lasagna
1 Mushroom Risotto
1 Green Tea
1 Cappuccino
Total= Dhs160.

Love their rich monstrous portions (IMO)!
