Dubai EatOuts #148: XIAO WEI YANG

Woot! Thanks to husband’s colleague, we found a Chinese steamboat (Hotpot) restaurant… Authentic too!!

The hot bubbly soup experience, dunking fresh ingredients, the smell of herbs and noisy chit-chatters reminds me of home…

Although the owners are from China, they do speak basic english which comes handy for non-chinese customers. And i get to put my Mandarin into good use too (thanks to my primary education in Singapore).

You know it’s authentic when crowds of Chinese families flood in after 8pm, chatting and slurping with hunger.

But the one thing missing, was my all time favourite saltish/savory diluted chilli sauce to dip.

Looks boring on the outside?
Bah! It’s about their flavourful herbal soups and the bubbly experience that matters!

Including 2 soft drinks, one large bottle of water, we (six of us) spent Dhs308… Mmm!

Dubai EatOuts #147: BARRIO FIESTA

I’ve never really tried Filipino cuisine/ cooking much. Upon reading an article in the local papers (early this year i think) about a newly opened authentic Filipino restaurant, i insisted to go and taste!

We’ve been regulars, dining in Barrio Fiesta eversince! Great service, meals fresh out of the kitchen consistently, thick rich gravies and the HUGE portion!

I delibrately zoomed into the large chunks of vegetables and meat, burps!

This place always reminds me of home… Asian faces, cooking style and ingredients!

We ordered:
1 pot of beef soup
1 stir-fry beans, pumpkin and tofu dish (with shrimp and coconut sauce/gravy)
1 medium sized bowl of rice to share
2 Lemon juice

Total bill was Dhs76.

We’ll always be back.

Dubai EatOuts #146: CARLUCCIO’s @ Dubai Mall

Weeks ago, we had a delicious breakfast experience in Carluccio’s, and because of their courteous and quality meals i decided to return, at The Dubai Mall outlet instead, for lunch.

I enjoyed lunching at THIS restaurant much more, spacious seating layout and wider food varieties.
Walking into the weekend crowd, we chose a table towards the corner… A window seat overlooking the 30-acre Burj Khalifa lake… Nice!

We ordered
1 Lasagna
1 Mushroom Risotto
1 Green Tea
1 Cappuccino
Total= Dhs160.

Love their rich monstrous portions (IMO)!

Dubai EatOuts #145: CREEKSIDE

Japanese cuisine is one of my favourite food likes. From their delicate ways of sushi preparation to Teppanyaki live cooking!

As i was craving for an affordable authentic Japanese restaurant… Good reviews (mainly their buffet) i read recently led us to try CREEKSIDE, with hopes of a good a la carte dining experience.

Upon strolling towards the entrance, we were greeted with warm friendly smiles. Their crisp menu ranges from Appetizers to Bento sets, which   -i’m sure- satisfies any Japanese diners out there.
Hubs and i totally enjoyed the cosy decor/ ambience, prompt polite service and, especially their handsome portions.

We ordered 2 set menus  (Tori Teriyaki Teishoku and Chicken Katsu Curry), served with Miso soup and Pickles. Both sets were cooked-to-order which was the reason it took about 15-ish mins to arrive. Not forgetting the complimentary savory appetizer that came before our mains.

And oh, noticed the generous chunks of seaweed in my Miso Soup? Mm mmm!

Inclusive a pot of tea to share, the bill came to Dhs 208. It was worth every Dirham spent!

We’ll be returning to try their buffet deals someday.

Dubai EatOuts #144: NOODLE FACTORY

Okay, my Thai eat-and-review plan changed. Wasn’t that energized to explore much today.

So instead, i decided on NOODLE FACTORY to satisfy my noodle soup cravings. This is our fourth time lunching here… And i’m still addicted to their tasty Asian menu!
On my first NOODLE FACTORY eat-and-review, we had Indo Nasi Goreng and M’sian Char Kwoey Teow.

This time we had:
1 Wanton Soup
1 Still Water (to share)
1 Egg Noodles with Lemongrass and Chicken
1 Banana Fritters (to share)!

Total bill was Dhs105, another worth-spending eatout.

Dubai EatOuts #143: MAMMA OLIVA

Here we are off to lunch at the newly opened MAMMA OLIVA  – a Milanese restaurant – at Festival City mall. The promotional advertorial article i read (featured in Timeoutdubai) boasts about its unpretentious quality of food. So here i am trying it out.

As expected, service was prompt and friendly. Good pizza and pasta selections, liking their table decorations and the woody interior made lunch light and relax.

Inclusive of 25% discount, the bill came to Dhs 120.

Dubai EatOuts #142: MANNALAND

Thanks to an ex-colleague, i got to know this Korean eatout known for their rich and flavourful foods! The must to order any KimChi-related dishes/soups whenever you dine at a Korean place is unavoidable.

What i love about this claustrophobic restaurant is that they serve PORK! Mm!
And don’t be deceived by their shabby looking facade/ interior, as they easily attract crowds (mostly Koreans/ Asians) during weekends and weeknights.

We ordered:
1 BBQ Marinated Pork
1 Kimchi Tofu/Seafood (Hotpot) Soup
2 bowls of rice
1 Onion and Seafood Pancake
1 Large bottle of water
Complimentary pickled/fresh appetizers

Total bill was Dhs120. Worth it!

So if you’re craving for some Korean, do check out cosy Mannaland for an exotic treat.

Oh wait, the only downside is exiting the restaurant smelling like a BBQ stove!
